Most people take two or three trips a year. Some take one. A subscription asks you to pay every month for something you use in bursts, and to remember to cancel in between. We tried it, and it never felt right.

The problem with a subscription for a travel app
A subscription makes sense for something you use every day. A travel planner is not that. It is intense for a few weeks before a trip, quiet for months, then intense again.
That mismatch shows up in three ways:
- You pay for months where you do not travel, or you cancel and re-subscribe every time, which is a chore nobody enjoys.
- You plan a trip in April, forget about the subscription, and find the charge in September.
- You avoid starting a trip in the app at all, because you do not want another recurring charge.
We saw the last one in our own numbers. People planned their first trip, liked it, and stopped there. The subscription was the wall, not the product.
What changed in 1.4
Floki Premium is now pay per trip.
You buy trip credits. A credit is spent when you unlock a trip, and from then on that trip has everything: as many itinerary refreshes as you want, the people you invite following along, the full Before you go checklist, forwarded bookings landing in place. The trip stays unlocked for as long as it exists.
A few things worth knowing:
- Credits never expire. Buy them now, use them next year.
- One purchase, no renewal. There is nothing running in the background and nothing to cancel.
- Credits belong to your account, not your phone. Sign in on a new device and they are there.
- Joining a trip is always free. If a friend shares a trip with you, you follow the whole plan without spending anything.
Your first trip is still free
Nothing changes here. Your first trip in Floki is free to start, with a first itinerary and the checklist. If you want to refresh the days again, or bring other people in, a credit unlocks that trip fully. You decide when, and only for that trip.
Why the pack of five
Two options in the app: one credit, or a pack of five.
The single credit is for the trip you are planning right now. The pack is for how travel actually happens: you know there will be a summer trip, a wedding somewhere, a long weekend that comes together at the last minute. The pack costs less per trip than buying five singles, and since credits do not expire, there is no pressure to use them by a date.
If you plan more than one trip a year, or you plan trips for other people, the pack is the one to get.
Questions you might have
Do credits expire? No.
Can I get a refund on a credit I did not use? Purchases go through Apple, so refunds follow Apple’s process. Unused credits stay in your account for as long as you want them.
I switched phones. Where are my credits? Sign in with the same account. Credits live on your account.
Can I share credits with someone? No, but you do not need to. Anyone you invite to a trip joins for free.
What happens to a trip when the credit is spent? It stays unlocked. A credit is not a timer, it is a key.
